Super 8 Weekend Workshop

As part of the Wimbledon Shorts Film Festival 2010 (www.wimbledonshorts.com) we’re running a FREE Super 8 workshop, supported by the Thames Community Foundation Grassroots Grant scheme, for twenty participants. The workshop runs over a weekend (26/27 June 2010) and gives you the chance to learn about Super 8 filmmaking and create your own Super 8 film.

The workshop is open to London Borough of Merton residents aged 16 or over. You might be an experienced digital filmmaker, keen amateur or film enthusiast wanting to make your first film - you don't need any prior filmmaking experience to attend. All the necessary equipment, resources and training will be provided throughout the weekend by the Shorts team. During the workshop we’ll introduce you to Super 8 technology, show you how to use a camera and shoot Super 8 film. Films made as part of the workshop and will be screened in the reception area as part of the Wimbledon Shorts Film Festival 2010. The Festival, hosted by the Wimbledon Film Club (www.wimbledonshorts.com), will be held at Hmvcurzon Wimbledon on Saturday July 10th.

Why Super 8?

Working with Super 8 Film is an intuitive and hands-on process that needs patience, planning and creativity. Without the immediacy of digital technologies, the filmmaker needs to plot and plan their film carefully using a cartridge of Super 8 film. Films will be shot in chronological sequence using the distinctive, historic landscape of Wimbledon as their backdrop.

Want to take part?

The workshop is FREE but places are limited. You can apply for a place:

  • either as a filmmaking team of 4 people
  • or as an individual and we’ll team you up with others

The workshop will run from 9am - 6pm on both Saturday 26th June and Sunday 27th June. You must be able to attend on both days.

To apply for a place for you or your team, write a brief paragraph (limit 150 words) about why you or your team would like to take part in the workshop and send to:
